2011: pre-debut
Before making their official debut, all members were backup dancers for AS Blue's "Wonder Boy" music video, participating in the live stages with them. JR was featured in After School's Uee's debut song "Sok Sok Sok" and was later dubbed as "Bangkok Boy" after appearing in Orange Caramel's "Bangkok City", while Minhyun starred in the music video of "Shanghai Romance". Baekho appeared in After School's follow-up single music video "Play Ur Love".
NU'EST was also featured on "Love Letter", a holiday single with labelmates Son Dam Bi and After School. The artists later appeared on various stages to promote the single.[1]

NU'EST at the KCON 2012 in Irvine, California
On January 16, 2012, the first member of the group, JR, was revealed by Pledis Entertainment, with the other members following until January 19 when they had all been unveiled.[2][3][4] Extra information was unleashed to gain more interest in the group, explaining that After School's Uee gave Baekho his stage name.[5]
As more information was revealed it was noticed that their debut song, "Face", aimed to spread the awareness of bullying in schools. The official music video for "Face" was released and they are seen to be wearing pink which is not only the official colour of their fanclub, but also a colour to raise support against bullying.[6] It was later revealed that their debut single was composed by Swedish songwriter Daniel Bergman. NU'EST made their broadcast debut on Mnet's M! Countdown on March 15, 2012, with a double stage of "I'm Sorry" and "Face", two tracks off their freshly created album.[7]
On March 19, 2012, it was discovered that NU'EST would be starring in their own reality show, "Making of a Star: NU'EST, Landing Operation".[8] On this reality program, the group aims capture the hearts of their fans by visiting various parts of South Korea.
On July 1 NU'EST revealed they were to make their comeback with a Mini album titled 'Action' to be released on July 11. This album turned out to have a strong feel to it and a title track against comformity, informing the population that they should think for themselves and establishing a constant message in their songs.[9]
On December 9, NU’EST held a sold out mini concert in Japan which sold out in 10 minutes, proving their popularity not only in Korea but also in foreign countries.[10]
In recent photos of the group, they have stated that they are in the recording studio, recording for their upcoming album, which is expected to be released in the first half of 2013.

Locations visited
On August 24, NU'EST attended the 2012 K-Pop Contest in Sydney at UNSW (The University of New South Wales) Science Theatre [11] as special guests along with SBS PopAsia radio station crew Jamaica Dela Cruz and Jay-K. They also met and greeted fans at Circular Quay who had waited from 4am that same morning with few photos and autographs. NU'EST performed Not Over You, Face and Action.
On October 13, NU'EST attended KCON in LA, performing Not Over You, Face and Action and did a fan sign along with a Q&A.
On October 26, NU'EST went down to Singapore for their showcase. NU’EST was questioned by police at Singapore airport due to extreme fans. After successfully finishing their first showcase in Singapore on the 28th, the group boarded a plane bound for Korea at the airport. However, as hundreds of fans gathered to see their idols off, the airport soon became clogged as it was not designed to handle this many people at one time. The atmosphere quickly became chaotic, and three of the NU’EST members – JR, Minhyun, and Aron - were told to leave the aircraft and were transported to a nearby police station and subjected to questioning.[12] Baekho and Ren left on a plane immediately, and JR, Minhyun and Aron on a separate plane later that day.
On November 21, NU'EST went to Malaysia to perform at the SHOUT! AWARDS 2012. They presented the music video award and performed Face and Action as the closing act.
